Defective (Outcast Book 1) - Belinda Austin Review

(Book Cover Source: www.goodreads.com)

Hello Readers...

Before starting with anything I will like to express my gratitude to Belinda for providing a copy of the book for review. I was very curious with this book when I read the synopsis and found out that it was Belinda who has penned this book. I was pretty impressed and was in love with Belinda's last book "Dishonor Thy Wife" and was really looking forward to reading this book. So here is what I feel after reading the book:

Lets start with the synopsis followed by video trailer of the book:

"In a society where rebels are unwanted, the Outcast have their own underground world beneath the streets of the New York City.

What type of society applies the word Defective to healthy young humans?

IT IS ALMOST A PERFECT WORLD. One government rules earth -- the Commonwealth and one people -- the Commoners. The pure society of the Commonwealth has but one contamination, the 1%, the Outcast -- rebellious kids and young adults who for some puzzling reason cannot or will not conform.

When Dante's girlfriend vanishes like thousands of other Outcasts before her; he enlists the aid of friends to find her.. They discover the shocking secret of what extreme the Commonwealth of earth will go to ensure the Outcasts reform and obey the rules! "

It is always said that "Never Judge A Book By Its Cover" & since this book is about the rebellious behavior, lets judge it for a while. The cover of the book is pretty amazing and kudos to Belinda for that. I really like the concept of the book, the concept of a perfect world with few people not willing to follow the rules of the perfect world. Being a person who doesn't like to follow rules, I could completely relate to the story.

The best thing about this book or rather about Belinda is that she gives her readers a chance to have an instant and intimate connection to her characters and she does the same in this book as well. The thoughts of the characters expressed between the story helps the readers to have a much deeper connection with the characters.

Coming to the characters in the book, the character description is excellent. The main challenge for any author while writing a book is making their characters feel real to their readers and Belinda didn't disappoints in that aspect. The characters feel real and genuine to me.

The first half was loaded with lot of information while the second half was loaded with lot of plot twists. So in totality, the book seems balanced in my frank opinion. However, I do feel that the second half is slightly fast pace as compare to the first half, which some people might find difficult to stay with the book. For me personally, I managed to stay with the book till the end. Also, the story starts becoming more interesting as the story progresses.

Since this is the first book of the series, the most important question in-front of any reader is whether they will consider reading the next book in the series and for me personally given the fact that it is Belinda and having read her earlier work and considering this book, I will definitely consider reading the next book in the series.

So, if I have to rate the book, I will give this book 4 stars out of 5. So  if you like reading dystopian fiction. you will surely like this book. Just to mention, I finished the entire book in a day. So you can pretty much guess how good that book is. I hope you also feel the same after reading this book. Exile - Rachel Starr Thomson Review

(Book Cover Source: www.goodreads.com)

Hello Readers...

To sum up what the book is all about here is a brief synopsis of the entire story:

" When Tyler fishes the girl out of the bay, he thinks she's dead. She wishes she was. For Reese, life ended when the supernatural entity called the Oneness threw her out. For Tyler, dredging Reese out of the water means life is nothing he thought. In a world where the Oneness exists, nothing looks the same. Dead men walk. Demons prowl the air. Old friends peel back their mundane masks and prove as supernatural as angels. The Oneness changes everything. And getting Reese home, making her One again, will change Tyler -- and his roommate, Chris, whose connections with the Oneness have been buried most of his life -- forever."

I had some mixed feeling before starting with the book, as this book is quite different from the genres of book I like to read. So at the beginning of the book I was quite skeptical regarding the book but as soon as I moved through few pages my skepticism faded and I was completely into the book.

The first thing that I liked about the book was the cover. I must say it was foreboding justifying the essence of the book, i.e. of angels and demons, but I actually liked it. I must say in terms of writing, Rachel Starr Thomson never disappoints. The writing and the narration is excellent which is something you can find in almost every novel of Rachel Starr Thomson. The characters feels real and appear genuine to me. Though I don't believe in Angels and Demonic activities, I felt the entire story happening right in front of the eye while reading the book. The beginning is slightly at slower pace as compared to the end, but I felt that was interesting as it made many people like me who are not into reading such Christian Fantasy comfortable.

The way the story moved is interesting and will keep you guessing the twist, though I stopped guessing after a while. I think you should do the same as you will get tired guessing the plot twists as there are many. The best thing which I guess is the USP of the book is the concept and the narration of the book.

Now coming to things what I don't like...

Like I mention before, the second half of the story is at faster pace as compared to the beginning. For some one who is not into reading many books or I can say a person who is not a habitual reader will find it difficult to stay with the book as it goes story goes through great pace revealing new twists very quickly. To all my non-habitual reader friends, try to stay with book and don't just drop it in the middle, I am quite sure you will regret doing that.

Also I felt, the middle of the book was slightly weak. By that, I mean there was lot of confusion as to what is happening with the characters as there where many characters with very little link to where the story was heading. I guess, that is one of the reason why the end seemed so fast pace.

Still this is a good book to read and if you enjoy reading such angel vs demon saga, you will like this book. Coming to the important question...Will I Read The Next Book In The Series? The answer will be yes, atleast book 2 in the series. To rate the book on the scale of 5, I will give it 4 stars. So if you wanna pick the book here is the link to the amazon:

Before I Go To Sleep - S.J.Watson Review

(Book Cover Sourcewww.goodreads.com)

Hello Readers...

Before beginning with my review, here is the plot synopsis for you to judge the book

"As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I'm still a child, thinking I have a whole lifetime of choices ahead of me.

Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your udentity, your past, even the people you love--all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust only be telling you half the story.

Welcome to Christine's life."

This story is not new to the readers. This kind of story is being depicted in movies like "Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind" and "Memento". The interesting thing here is how the author "S.J.Watson" have fabricated this entire concept, making this novel a good read. The way S.J.Watson has portrayed Christine is comendable. The way the book has been structured is simply fascinating. The most beautiful thing that I liked about the book is the way the links of the entire story is fabricated. S.J.Watson gives out just enough information required to keep his readers engaged into this story. Also the character description is good and quality content is written in this novel.

Now coming to the cons...I feel the beginning of the book was decent for me, not that great not that bad. I wish the beginning could have been made slightly better. Also I felt the end was little rushed. Don't get me wrong, the end is quite interesting, only certain aspects on certain occasions were rushed. I wish the author could have paid a little more attention to the way the end has been scripted.

So to sum up, this is definitely a great psychological thriller to read having great story with great content. I will surely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading psychological thrillers. Given a chance to rate this book, I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars. If you wanna pick this book, I will leave a link to the amazon below
